Reducing The Nostrils
Personally, when it comes to narrowing the nostrils (Nasal Alar Wedge Reduction), Dr. Nima prefers narrowing from the inside of the nose with a diamond-shaped incision, just behind the sill. Although this does not allow the nostrils to be as narrowed as they would be from the external approach, this internal method leaves no apparent scarring. In comparison, the external method yields a visible scar in most patients, which rarely, if ever, is obscure enough to go unnoticed—an obvious giveaway for rhinoplasty. If after the internal approach, you continue to feel like your nostrils are too broad, the external incision can easily be applied.
If the “pinched” look happens to result from your rhinoplasty procedure, consult a rhinoplasty specialist. If you are extremely bothered by its noticeable appearance, you may be a candidate for another procedure. If the “pinch” is not too drastic, a small amount of filler is a relatively safe option and can make the nose appear less narrow. In addition, fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are temporary and reversible, so if the results aren’t to your liking, they can be reversed.
Will A Rhinoplasty Cause My Nose To Appear Too “Pinched”?
Another concern often posed by those patients looking to undergo a rhinoplasty, or nose job, is the “pinched” appearance. This occurs when surgeons divide (cut) the cartilage, rather than sewing it together. For this reason, it is very important to find a rhinoplasty surgeon who has experience with a variety of noses, especially considering the complexity of a rhinoplasty procedure. However, using careful suturing techniques, your surgeon can achieve the ideal nostril, with a natural appearing, slender tip that is void of the “pinched” look.
